Going sailing today

We are leaving shortly, to go sailing today with friends on the good ship Asterix.

We will be discussing the best way to leverage Internet technologies that allow small business to thrive in this economy, while setting sails and learning sailing skills. - I will be learning the sailing skills, because I understand bits, bytes, IP Protocols, and professional coaching, but don't understand wind driven sail-boats :) (You want me to tack what?)

This is one way to staying busy, and never be bored. If you are bored today, then read my note on facebook, to become unbored.

Winning

Last Saturday, I crewed the good ship Asterix, out of Noank. We took part in the West Cove Yacht Club Annual Regatta. As you can see from the smile on our faces, and the beaming captain with the first prize trophy, we won in our class. Yahooo!!

Sailing The Sound - Excursion 1 of 2009

Yesterday I was out sailing with two very experienced sailors on the good ship Asterix. If you are not familiar with Asterix, then take a few minutes to research him. He embodies the spirit of everyone who chooses to stand and fight for what is right.
Asterix and his village defied the Roman Empire and resisted all attempts to become part of the mighty Roman Empire. Similarly, the good ship Asterix stands symbolizes the spirit of those of us who steadfastly stand and fight to make a difference in little ways in our worlds every day.

While we were out on the perfect sailing day, we crossed paths (or would that be wakes?) with the good ship Amistad. See the short video clip of the Amistad with sails up.

We also crossed paths with a large tanker that changed course after we changed course to avoid it, requiring us to tack again. Believe me, it is a lot larger and travelling much faster than appears from this photo. No matter who has the right of way -sailboat or tanker - logic dictates that you keep your eyes open and move out of the way of large tankers as soon as you can.

The Good Ship Asterix

Yesterday I went out with good friends on the Long Island Sound. We sailed over to Fisher's Island for lunch. This is a 15 minute trip with the motor, but as my Captain says "You throw away your watch when you pull up the sail, because nature has no time pieces". Our trip took a few hours as we enjoyed each other's company, the fresh air and a touch of sun under a gentle 10 knots per hour wind.
We saw many sailboats on the Long Island Sound, but speedboats are few and far between thanks to the price of gas. Fisher's Island is serene and I could live on the Island should the opportunity arise.
The top photo shows a "Class Race". This is a race with the same boats which levels the playing field and the only way to win is by applying superior skill.
